Is there a close range deer rifle/cartridge that is light, easy to carry and economical to shoot? It has to use small amounts of powder but pack a big punch.
It should be easy to shoulder and not have to much recoil. Anyone should be comfortable using it, from young or small framed hunters up to big, burly macho guys.
What about a 7.62x39 bolt gun?
To get the best performance from the 7.62x39, I needed the right bullet and powder load. I had to gather all the equipment and buy some reloading dies. I tested Federal, PMS and Winchester factory loads as well as Prvi Partizan, Igman and even some Norinco Silver box - for the hell of it. All the test results are there. Some may surprise you!
I tested five different bullets in 2 weights - 123 and 150 grains! Bullets by Hornady, Lapua, Speer, Sierra.
Also: Case Comparisons - Using Water to Measure the Volumes Difference and Pressure Variations - Differences Caused by Changing the Case.
I also did tests with WC 735, an inexpensive military surplus powder similar to H335.
The 7.62x39 cartridge is effective and accurate! |
